Achieving Your New Goals
Goals are so important. If you’re not sure where to start, start small and work your way up to bigger goals. There may be obstacles along the way to the finish line, such as self sabotage or negative self talk, so you need to know the fundamentals to master when trying to achieve any goal.
Write Down Your Goals
Let’s say your goal is to start a new career or get a better job. Don’t just write the words, “I want a new job.” Be very detailed in what you want to achieve. Write down what you must do in order to achieve the goal, create a timeline, and the steps to take to get there. Write down what job you want, what you must do to get that job (training, a degree, etc.,) where you would like to work, and what salary you are seeking. Don’t be vague about any of the details.
Understand Your Motivating Force
A lot of goals we want are things that we assume will make us happy. Be very clear on what it is you want and why you want it. Your reason for wanting this goal must be compelling and something you know you must achieve (as opposed to something you just want but wouldn’t be too upset if it didn’t happen.) A lot of New Year’s resolutions don’t happen because the goals weren’t wholeheartedly desired. When the self sabotaging behavior begins, they give up on the goal.
