Self-Parenting 101

How would you say you treat yourself? Do you find that you’re compassionate? Understanding? Or do you find yourself at blame for bad things that happened? Maybe even telling yourself that you’re being too emotional? All of this, the way that you see and treat yourself internally, is self-parenting.

What is Self-Parenting?

We all have heard that self-care and self-love are important, but not many have heard of self-parenting. Self-parenting is our internal parent. The way that we view our actions and feelings, and the way that we handle ourselves.

What should a parent be? When we look at parenting, we want to see someone who is kind, compassionate, centered, and loving. This is what we aim to embody and how we should work on parenting ourselves. Set yourself up for success instead of tearing yourself down or neglecting certain needs.

A lot of our self-parenting habits are formed young, based on the environment and the parenting styles we received. Depending on whether or not you were allowed to experience emotions, cope properly, and how failures were treated can greatly impact how you self-parent.
