Most people have heard of this phrase, but little fully understand what it means to be emotionally and mentally healthy. We understand that we have four areas to our inner self. We have our mental health, our emotional health, our spiritual health, and our physical health. The two areas most children receive guidance on during their childhood is with their physical and spiritual health, but even those areas can be neglected at times.

We are taught the importance of bathing, brushing our teeth, and eating healthy foods. We are often introduced at a young age to religion and attending classes that help us mode a belief system that we may keep for the rest of our lives. We are cared for in many areas except our mental and emotional well-being.

Our emotional and mental well-being are often put on the back burner during our childhood. The reason is that the adults that were had an influence over you often did not know what it meant to be emotionally and mentally healthy. Since they did not know how to care for themselves, they were not able to give you the tools to do this for yourself. They did not know what it meant to really take care of themselves on these deep levels. You then grew up not getting what you needed, nor did you learn what how to be healthy yourself.
